Lightest Skateboard Trucks with Yancy Scot Schwartz

2024/03/09 Yancy Scot Schwartz tried out the Lunar Light III trucks at Venice Beach, and here’s his honest feedback:

“I’m about to try out these new Lunar Light Trucks, 2HEX, German design. I like it, let’s see. Wow, it’s good packaging. Okay, they got a skate key for the truck, I like this design, the packaging looks biodegradable. The color’s sick, it’s got sparkles on it, I like that. It’s kind of shiny. Low profile truck, I like it.

Good packaging, attention to design. Oh, instructions: pop, commit—commit to yourself landing a trick, commit 100%. Never skate half… That’s really, really good advice.

It’s got a low profile nut, that’s good for feebles, so you don’t mess up. Alright, let me see… do you have a skate key? Yep, skate key. I can’t wait to try these. I’m like super excited. I hope I don’t hate them. I don’t think I’ll hate them, but who knows? Everybody has their own style.

How have people responded to the Lunar Light Trucks? Most people, especially those caring about light trucks, really love them, but those people used to heavy trucks have difficulty with it.

A couple of grinds, a couple of slappies… the Lunar Light Baseplate looks so sick. Yeah, I really like this. For some reason, I like the baseplate, it’s so nice and low profile. These little things, this little design aspect looks so good. I don’t know, it looks really good.

Okay, they’re pretty loose right off the box, I kind of like it. Okay, we got a good turn. Do you want to tighten them? No, I like this truck. Oh, wow, already see from the feeble. Yeah, you got so low from the feeble, dude. Lets go to the quarter pipe! They grind gooood. Dude, they feel super light. They grind so good, dude, because that ledge is chunky. You have to really push it and lean back. So they grind super good, they turn good. I didn’t even mess with them. It’s like… I don’t have to tighten them or loosen them, they are right off the bat. These are good stock bushings. They grind super smooth. No complaints.

Can you give me one more time the feedback about the bushings? Oh, the bushings are so good on these. The stock bushings, usually I swap out on my other trucks to Bones and I have to like loosen them and tighten them. I didn’t even touch these right out of the box. Perfect. This is like the perfect looseness right off the box. It’s so good. I’m stoked.”

2025/03/28 Jose from San Diego: I’ll give you some feedback based on the size 8 Lunar Light IV Truck compared to my tensor mag light lo, grind king lockers, Indy’s 139 and theeves TiH. The lunar light IV trucks feel very similar to my theeves and tensors lo, the advantage over the tensor being once I hit axle, it will last because it’s titanium and the height doesn’t bother me and I get more wheel clearance but I’m still able to wheel bite if I needed to ( which I do use wheel bite for some things) and the advantage over the theeves is price and easier and faster to get the grooves. I did however change my bushings. The one’s provided where insanely hard lol so I installed my personal setup bushings ( dohdoh cones red on the back and blue in the front). Over all after using them for a while I noticed I can pop way higher easily, when I get into grinds they don’t care about wax lol, the turning is how I like it ( but not like standard Indy’s it’s more mellow and delayed of a turn)  I can crook just fine, flips much easier on the foot, one little thin I did notice was the king pin wobble, now I know by experience it is very hard to get a solid inverted king pin and my buddies freak out about the wobble but I can testify I don’t even notice it until flip the board over and play with the wheels and stuff, but that is something I’ve seen it bother other skaters. Had another tough session today and they are just great !

Nick from 2HEX: Hey Jose. Wow what a feedback, thank you! You’re really deep into trucks – and you really know your stuff. Impressive! Yes, the kingpin wobble is annoying and hard to fix. In the near future we will also add a standard kingpin version. And we will play around a bit with different options to better fix the inverted kingpin. But actually, like you wrote – I also don’t feel it when riding, it just looks weird. Regarding the delayed turn: The hard bushings inside the trucks do not have a delay in turn – that’s why we’re using these bushings. And we made them hard, because we had skaters tighten the trucks so much, that the inverted kingpin was tightened all the way into the deck – so were just right away now giving harder bushings. In the future we will add truck versions with different hardness bushings to prevent this. But as you said – most bushings will create a delay in turning with Lunar Lights truck shape – only this specific PU formula were using doesn’t. So switching bushings is a bit difficult for skaters. Haha the pop: I feel you – I also pop much higher with these trucks! And my legs feel more comfortable skating these trucks. It so much depends on the skater though – everyone reacts so differently!
